Hello, All!

Several times, many things have been mentioned about the lack of games in
the linux world, which leads to less appeal of linux to the general
public.

Well, the new Quake III Arena is being put on linux, and apparenly it is
being used as a bench mark for future games... (I guess this is a step in
the right direction, but I am not much of a quake (or other fanatic
shooting game) fan...

But anyway, here's the info that I have about it from members of my LUG:

The Q3A release under Linux is a *BIG* deal. There are a lot of
industry bigwigs watching the numbers on this one. Carmack specifically
asked linux users to buy the linux version. If this one doesn't move
the necessary copies then future gaming under linux may be non-existent to
say the least. If numbers are good one can certainly expect a good
number of games to port. The Q3A engine and the Unreal Tournament
engine have been built to be easily ported to Linux so if any company
that in-turn licenses these engines will be able to port to Linux with
little effort. However, if management doesn't see a linux release as
financially appealing it won't happen. Put your money where your mouth
is if you are going to play Q3A under linux. It could mean a lot for
linux in the long run.
