Yeah, those dongles are fragile. However, if it's a 3Com, send it back,
trade it in for an unbroken one.
We've been using the Xircom RealPort card you describe lately at work,
and love it (Intel makes one that is identical - except for the face
being blue, not red). I like the traffic and carrier lights for both
ethernet and modem connections.
