Grant Henke commented on KUDU-2099:
-----------------------------------

Updating the current dependency libraries that would require Java 8 to upgrade:
 * Spark 2.2.1
 * Flume 1.8.0 (we use 1.7.0)
 * Hadoop 3.0.0 (we use 2.8.1)
 * Guava 24.0-jre (we use 20.0, we can use the 24.0-android version for 1.7
compatibility)

> Java 8 has been out for quite some time and with Java 9 coming we should
> consider dropping Java 7 support. This also would allow us to update some
> libraries that have also decided to move to Java 8 only including Spark 2.2.0
> and Guava 23.0.
