I'm quite confused by the current ticket description, because looks like we
don't need most of the functionality of the SegmentedRingByteBuffer. I created
a similar implementation from scratch tailored for the requirements from the
design document, hope that's enough. I'll gladly revise this ticket in the
future in case I understood the original idea incorrectly.
