Assuming the changes in the PR are functional and mergeable (at least
style-wise), I think the best path forward would be to just get those changes
into the {{next}} branch as soon as possible and let the iterating commence.
The PR as it stands is enormous and daunting, but I think the incremental
changes after that's merged should be significantly more reviewable.
