Y'all are absolutely correct. it does appear to be an issue with xrdp. I found 
this related to one of the artifacts I found in the logs:

If only I had used the correct term to search with. I was just searching for 
Ctrl-c because that's the only time I saw it happen, never thought to search 
for cut.
