Thanks for the clear report and reproduction! I agree with your proposed approach. Mixed gathers should follow the durable-only behavior: preserve durable outcomes before the first cancellation signal, leave interrupted and later new slots PENDING, and keep the call index at the batch base so retries can reuse the saved prefix.
