MartijnVisser opened a new pull request, #29320: URL: https://github.com/apache/flink/pull/29320
Backport of https://github.com/apache/flink/pull/28634 (a053de2138e), which went to master but not to this branch. `StatefulWindowFunction.close()` asserts that `apply()` ran, but GENERATE and MIGRATE use a non-draining cancel-with-savepoint, so `close()` can run before `apply()`. The failed assertion kills the shared MiniCluster's only TaskManager, so the restore step fails with `NoResourceAvailableException` and later parameterizations fail or hang. The assertion now only runs in RESTORE mode. Last occurrence on this branch in the nightly of 2026-09-24, `AdaptiveScheduler / Test (module: tests)`: https://github.com/apache/flink/actions/runs/35945602087/job/107475765320 The Azure log of the 2026-09-18 nightly on this branch shows the TaskManager failing on `Apply was never called.` before the timeout: https://dev.azure.com/apache-flink/98463496-1af2-4620-8eab-a2ecc1a2e6fe/_build/results?buildId=79225&view=logs&j=5c8e7682-d68f-54d1-16a2-a09310218a49 Locally the base commit did not fail in 300 runs, with the default or the adaptive scheduler, and neither did this change. `spotless:check` and `checkstyle:check` pass. ##### Was generative AI tooling used to co-author this PR? - [X] Yes (please specify the tool below) Generated-by: Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
