Thanks for the thorough review and for running the 50-run probe. I've addressed the feedback: rebased onto current `main`, fixed the consumer ownership around metric registration with a regression test, and cleaned up the `ensureConsumer()` usage so it's only called at the SplitReader entry points. I also squashed the changes and linked FLINK-40396 for the connector-base follow-up.
