lincoln lee commented on FLINK-37097:
-------------------------------------

[~luoyuxia] [~Sergey Nuyanzin] Thank you both for giving more useful
information!
Try to summarize the current situation:
1. flink-1.20 contains the latest available version of the hive connector
2. the hive connector on the current master branch is no longer working (it was
removed from the module, and there are actually 20+ test failures[1] and 2.0
interface changes to be adapted)

Considering that flink-2.0 is about to feature freeze (1.20) and the hive
module will probably not be added back, it is recommended to move forward
according to externalize (i.e., release a version of the hive connector based
on flink 1.20) and do followup adapting work to 2.0.

Pending all prs in the main repository and hive connector repo except
release-related first to avoid further complicating things(Announce it in the
dev mailing list). WDYT?

> As per [https://github.com/apache/flink/pull/25947] the Hive code has been
> externalized into a new repo. We should remove flink-connector-hive and the
> flink-sql-connector-hive-* maven modules from core flink .

> I am happy to make this change if someone can assign me the Jira.
