yes. There is an ExceptionMapper in the test which maps exception to 406:

public class TestExceptionMapper implements ExceptionMapper<Throwable> {

        @Override
        public Response toResponse(Throwable throwable) {
                Writer result = new StringWriter();
                PrintWriter printWriter = new PrintWriter(result);
                throwable.printStackTrace(printWriter);

Response.status(Status.NOT_ACCEPTABLE).entity(result.toString()).build();
        }

}

It requires default.wae.mapper.least.specific  to false to get this work. I'll 
close this issue and this doesn't needs a fix.
