GitHub user erisu added a comment to the discussion: Branch name migration
I don't think there are any current plans to migrate the branch name. Some of the older ASF projects still use `master`—I've even seen a few that use `trunk`, which likely migrated from SVN. Projects using `main` were probably created post-2020. If you'd like to propose changing the default branch, this kind of request would likely need to go through the dev mailing list and be voted on. It might also require coordination with the infrastructure team, since we don't have direct access to change default branch settings—at least as far as I know. Changing the branch name itself might be straightforward, but we'd need to thoroughly review where master is referenced. It could also impact external users or downstream projects, not just those within the ASF.
