@El-Tommy, You just saved my life. I had to install `cordova-plugin-filepath`. Maybe all I needed was this, I'm not sure. Now with this plugin installed and adapting your code, the permission to access the file system is prompted before the file reading, which my previous code didn't do. Thank you very much.
