Charles Honton commented on LANG-1165:
--------------------------------------
Unfortunately, having FastDateFormat extend DateFormat causes multiple final
method violations: All of the static getInstance() and getDateInstance methods
are final in DataFormat.
FastDateParser can extend DateFormat. FastDatePrinter could extend DateFormat
with refactoring of two final format() methods, possibly a slight performance
hit.
> FastDateFormat should extend DateFormat

> Current FDT extends {{Format}} only, thus making it impossible to replace SDF
> where {{DateFormat}} is accepted.
> I am using Jackson's {{ObjectMapper}} which has a {{#setDateFormat}} method.
> But -- it accepts {{DateFormat}}. Impossible to use FDT.
