Claus Ibsen commented on CAMEL-25689:
-------------------------------------

Parked until Java 17 is dropped (CAMEL-22996). PR
[#27907|https://github.com/apache/camel/pull/27907] is converted to draft.

JToon moved to Java 21 bytecode in 2.0.6: 2.0.5 has class file version 61 (Java
17), while 2.0.6 and 2.0.7 have 65 (Java 21). The JDK 17 CI job therefore
cannot compile camel-toon against 2.0.7, and no JToon release after 2.0.5 runs
on Java 17. camel-toon stays on JToon 2.0.5 until main builds on Java 21. When
this resumes, consider the newest JToon release instead of 2.0.7 (2.0.8 and
3.0.0 are on Maven Central).

> Upgrade dev.toonformat:jtoon from 2.0.5 to 2.0.7 (Dependabot PR
> https://github.com/apache/camel/pull/27890). The upgrade needs source changes
> in camel-toon and the toon data format model:
> * JToon 2.0.6 removes the {{lengthMarker}} component of {{EncodeOptions}}.
> The TOON specification removed the {{[#N]}} array length marker in its 2.0
> release: encoders never emit it and decoders reject it. The {{lengthMarker}}
> option of the toon data format is therefore removed. Output written with
> {{lengthMarker=true}} could not be unmarshalled by the toon data format in
> strict mode (the default) already in Camel 4.23, and JToon 2.0.7 rejects it
> in both modes.
> * With {{strict=false}}, JToon 2.0.6 applies only the non-strict recoveries
> of the TOON specification (such as an array count that differs from the
> declared length) and throws {{IllegalArgumentException}} for other malformed
> input, instead of returning {{null}} or a partial result.
> Both changes go in the 4.24 upgrade guide.
