h2. Background
CAMEL-23861 Phase 1–3 delivered observability for:
* langchain4j-chat, langchain4j-agent, langchain4j-embeddings, openai
(chat/streaming)
* spring-ai-chat
Original JIRA scope and follow-up discussions implied broader coverage across
Camel AI components. Many producers still do not emit gen_ai.* spans or
Micrometer metrics.
h2. Problem
Observability coverage is incomplete. Users of OpenAI non-chat operations,
additional Spring AI modules, and cloud LLM components (Bedrock, Vertex AI,
Watsonx, HuggingFace, etc.) do not get consistent GenAI telemetry.
h2. Proposed scope (prioritize in sub-tasks or follow-on PRs)
*OpenAI component:*
* Embeddings, images, audio, moderation, responses API paths in OpenAIProducer
*Spring AI:*
* spring-ai-embeddings, spring-ai-image, spring-ai-vector-store (if applicable)
*Cloud / other LLM components:*
* Evaluate and instrument high-traffic components (e.g. bedrock, vertex-ai,
watsonx, huggingface) using same GenAiObservability API
*Each integration should:*
* Use GenAiObservability.start() / recordSuccess / recordError / close pattern
* Populate gen_ai.operation.name, gen_ai.system, gen_ai.request.model, token
usage where available
* Include producer-level observability test(s)
* Update ai-observability.adoc and upgrade guide if user-visible behavior
changes
