this list archives messages from mailman to pipermail.

it follows along with the normal open-source-developer policy of keeping
messages in plain text, by detaching html-styled messages and non-text
attachments (like inline images), a process it calls "scrubbing"

unfortunately most of the participants do not follow this policy - I know for a
fact some could not even if they wanted to.

it makes the archives almost useless. here is an example (not picking on
anyone, just pulled one out of the hat to demonstrate):

http://lists.iotivity.org/pipermail/iotivity-dev/2016-September/005475.html

if you click on the url for the detached html you can view it... but it's
entirely uninterpreted, and you can see it's not really readable by a human. I
guess one could them save this attachment to a file and try to open it with a
browser directly - that works, but is quite a pain if you're trying to follow a
thread with lots of messages.

I'm wondering if we could send this list to one of the external archiving
services in the hopes it would do better with it... The Mail Archive, Gmane,
etc. (although Gmane might be going away, sadly).

Any thoughts? Or is there another way we could improve the archives without
going to an external archive?
