It may be selfish of me, but it might be a good time to do a release after
someone's really hammered out the remaining issues of:

https://bugzilla.icculus.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4790
https://bugzilla.icculus.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4358

IQM ( http://lee.fov120.com/iqm/ ) was recently added and bugfixed a bit
which is good news for anyone wanting MD5-level model/animation stuff as
from what I understand it's trivial to go from MD5 to IQM, some
command-line tool imports/converts it. That'll help attract content
creators to any projects using ioq3 as a base.

There's a longstanding sound looping bug that DevHC will hopefully get
around to fixing and submitting a patch for; he doesn't use bugzilla so
you don't see it listed, but I believe it to be related to this bug in
Reaction: https://bugzilla.icculus.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4079 There appears
to be different behavior in OAL versus the normal Q3 sound system and
DevHC was going to be "fixing" the Q3 sound system where the issue still
seems to exist.

>From what I know off the top of my head, Thilo is in the middle of trying
to make QVMs safer and also wants to overhaul the networking a smidge (or
already did?) to make it easier to fix VOIP issues that are currently in
bugzilla. I think bugzilla has those issues listed.

And the only other thing I see as affecting users would be maybe the MSVC
project files needing to be updated.

But I'm looking at this from a user wondering, "what's new since 1.36 that
I would care about?" Right now I think IQM has been added and... lots of
stuff under the hood but nothing quite as sexy as a new renderer.

A new release is a good time to spam some news sites and get some
publicity and if you want to attract fresh meat, make the release as
enticing as possible. My opinion, at least.

Monk.
