The usage of "var" may continue to decline as folks increasingly adopt the newer visibility keywords. Perhaps it's too early to make this decision and this discussion needs to be postponed for some time? I'm okay with that. But if/when the decision is made to remove it, doing so in a major release with ample warning seems to be the right approach, and 8.0 seems far enough way to be a potential candidate.
