Inherently, any discussion concerning interactions between people is "political". Politics is not the exclusive domain of states, it's a feature of any and every social group.
And unfortunately, any document which says that you can't discriminate is political, any document which says harassment is wrong is political, in fact anything which proscribes any behaviour of any kind is political.
Also, arguing against a code of conduct is, in itself, also political. If you don't think a code of conduct is necessary, it's a political statement, just as being in favour of one is.
So, basically, what I'm saying that complaining something involves "politics" is fruitless, because of course it does. Instead, argue your case for why the "politics" of it is - that is, the content - is bad. If it happens to be written by people who disagree from your political persuasion, that would be immaterial. The content is what is being discussed and potentially adopted, not the author's personal views.
