the patches in bug #61921 and bug #61853 was unfortunately not brought to the point. If you want to take over and make ext/ldap compatible with 2.4.x without usage of the deprecated symbols - that would be great. I guess the compatibility with ldap 2.3.x would still be useful. If you've decided to work on that, I'd be glad to support you with tests and reviews. I'd suggest for the start you to port those two ticket's patches to PHP7 and make the PRs, then we could test/improve it and see further. Thanks.
