Sure. But your proposal introduces a couple of new ways to accomplish what you can already do today. Judging from my own (limited) experience, the more ways to do one thing, the more errors and confusion creep in your code. This is the opposite of productiveness. No need to tell me there's already plenty of examples in php of this feature creep in php.
