Greetings

I am trying to build a local server environment for my web development
projects (I also try to get oscommerce working) . In order to achieve this I
downloaded XAMPP but this software package appears to be still in
development, full of bugs and incompatibilities. I just simply don't have
time to hang around their forum for the next half year to hopefully get it
going.

Since this is an installation problem rather than a development one, it should be on one of the general lists ... php-windows or php-install

Now I decided to download Apache/PHP/MySQL/Zend, etc, all individual and
build my local server.

Apache is on my Windows XP-Pro SP2 already and running just fine (very
simple and clean installation)

Next:

   - I downloaded the Windows Binary
Installer<http://windows.php.net/downloads/releases/php-5.3.0-nts-Win32-VC9-x86.msi>[23.85MB]
sha1:
   1d2c4e6aa5b3d308fb57dd0e2621b6db6d7167f2

This should have given me a window during the installation like
"attachment_1", in which I can choose Apache as my server but - it didn't

The 5.3-VC9 build does not support Apache ... you need the 5.3-VC6 builds for that.

   - Then I downloaded PHP complete source codePHP 5.2.10
(tar.gz)<http://www.php.net/get/php-5.2.10.tar.gz/from/a/mirror>[11,166Kb]

Now all I need is your assistance on how to build PHP (and possibly include
phpMyAdmin) so it would work with Apache and MySQL. Having said this, I
would appreciate if you could advice on how to go about it.

Why download the source? There is a binary for 5.2.10 which since it uses the previous windows build structure it does support Apache 'out of the box'.

If you still have a problem post to php-wind...@lists.php.net. There are also a lot of past messages there on this area.

p.s. I'd suggest zencart rather than oscommerce, I'm using a port of zencart myself as I need it integrated with the rest of the site.
