Hi Alex, no, there aren't so far. The reason for trying around with some mem-tests at the moment is that we were running out of memory while executing the run-tests. So we had to find the reason for this. Se we're currently not optimizing the code, we're just trying to get the script running correctly. ;)
Btw, Zoe has already found the culprit, it seems that there is a 53-bug within the FilterIterator (see http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=48643).
