Well thanks for that help of course. And I appreciated that already when

That is not an option as than we would never have made any progress.

To be honest none of the PHP developers has any clue what it does besides
assuming it allows for in script changes of the character encoding. What a
few more people know is that it somehow deals with BOMS. Actually they know
it can be used to remove the UTF-8 BOM. That's all.
