Before we continue this discussion I think there are a couple of things which would be useful data points: a) What is the performance difference between an implicit Unicode app and non-Unicode. If we have 3-4 apps ported over to Unicode_semantics=on with only true binary strings cast to binay and real strings as UTF-16, then I volunteer to put it through our performance lab and come up with some real numbers. The lab is very well setup and is quite accurate. Do we have volunteers to port some of those apps? I suggested some apps a few emails ago. b) We should try and figure out whether a script could automatically migrate an application. I'll look into this but if anyone has time to work on something like that it'd be very helpful input.
