You can use a debugger such as XDebug or gdb to see a call stack. You'll need to re-compile with debugging on. You can also use http://lxr.php.net/ to help track down what fits where. Honestly, though, it's extremely unlikely that the actual problem lies in PHP itself, and you should be looking elsewhere.
