Variables' names are case-sensitive in PHP, $a = $A are two separate variables.

How would you want to guess which one is right?

If you want to emulate perl's "strict" mode just add an error_handler () that will catch E_NOTICE relating to undefined variable, constant, array key usage and convert them to fatal errors.

No, it doesn't do the same thing, it won't pick up the following:

        $fo0 = 'bill';
        ...
        $foo = 'ben';

One is a typeo.
