where dir would actually point the compiler to where the win32build is... (as bison and the rest reside in win32build php.net/extra..)
the fact that i posted a question does not mean i am either an idior or a newbie if it was self explanatory and solvable i wouldn't have posted..
anywayz there are other ways to make php 5.0.3 to work with MySQL 4.1 (i.e. change to OLD_Passwd)
