I actually liked the concept too :) (my initial prototype was a script). I agree that the macro's aren't that easy to handle.
We're working on doing this with a script now, which means that it'll be easier to see what's going on (the script will be slightly harder to maintain but it's probably worth it).
We might need to keep the generated files in CVS but that shouldn't be a problem.
