Ilia, we need to try to avoid this sort of thinking. This "vast majority" is most likely only a "vocal majority" these days. It is very likely that the non-mb users are actually the "few" and if we continue along your way of thinking then we need to have an ext/singlebyte that implements all these weird singlebyte string manipulation functions.
