Your whole argumentation is based on this assumption, that PHP *only* is used for writing web scripts. This is a faulty assumption. PHP is already used for writing stand-alone applications (think PHP-GTK and the CLI SAPI), and this is likely to increase in the future because of the improvements in the OOP support in PHP 5. I totally agree a 100% that a quick little web script don't really need OOP. But PHP, or rather, the Zend Engine 2, is not limited to only web scripting.
