There are certainly lots of other things we can do with our time :-) That said, I see another advantage of the new approach here. In the past at any given time we had somewhere between nobody and one or two brave souls working on the driver in FreeBSD. That work required an understanding of the hardware, FreeBSD and Linux interfaces, and context of the previous modifications to the driver.
