I did try this patch and I still see the same issue: when I go to the lowest level (xbacklight -set 0), the backlight is completely off. It seems in -rc2 the intel backlight driver works better, and can be controlled from the keys just fine, but it's still not as good as the acpi one minus win8. I don't notice any difference with your patch.
