"I can confirm that with Acer Emachines E527, it's quite same behaviour on all
modern linux distributions (ubuntu, debian, gnome 3 livecd). Till 2.6.32 it
works out of the box, after it I need to manually run

setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=00

as root to enable backlight (completely black screen until gdm screen, very dim
before running setpci). "
