Known issue with "hotplug" polling on those systems:

As of 2.6.36, there are two workarounds. (a) the kernel doesn't attempt
to do load-detection on your machine (the cause of the stutter), (b) there
is a module parameter (/sys/module/drm_kms_helper/parameters/poll) to
disable the polling entirely.
