Hi,
we just posted a new version of the document addressing the outstanding
comments listed below:
- added a reference to RFC 3819 and pointing out the importance of
broadcast/multicast support in a subnetwork (comment by Joe Touch)
- added a reference to RFC 5374 and respective text in the security
considerations section (comment by Brian Carpenter)
- added a reference to draft-ietf-dnssd-privacy and corresponding text
(comment by Tim Chown)
From our viewpoint there is nothing to add at this point in time and we
would like to request feedback from the group.
Best,
Rolf

Title : Privacy considerations for IP broadcast and multicast
protocol designers
Authors : Rolf Winter
Michael Faath
Fabian Weisshaar
Filename : draft-ietf-intarea-broadcast-consider-02.txt
Pages : 11
Date : 2017-02-13
Abstract:
A number of application-layer protocols make use of IP broadcasts or
multicast messages for functions like local service discovery or name
resolution. Some of these functions can only be implemented
efficiently using such mechanisms. When using broadcasts or
multicast messages, a passive observer in the same broadcast/
multicast domain can trivially record these messages and analyze
their content. Therefore, broadcast/multicast protocol designers
need to take special care when designing their protocols.
