While both work fine, I just find msmtp easier to set up and monitor when using multiple outgoing servers. The .msmtp.log file has proven useful many times, and .msmtprc is easy to configure.
Of course, it's one more piece of software on your system, but it's a good piece. Choose smtpmail if you don't want to bother with msmtp or if you are a purist and want to do as much as possible within emacs.
