GNU AutoGen/AutoOpts is a two-part project that serves two separate purposes. The two parts are combined because they are inextricably intertwined:
AutoGen is a tool designed to simplify the creation and maintenance of programs that contain large amounts of repetitious text. It is especially valuable in programs that have several blocks of text that must be kept synchronized. AutoOpts is both an example of that and a project in its own right. It is a very powerful configuration file, environment variable and command line option management tool consisting of a set of AutoGen templates and a run time library that nearly eliminates the hassle of managing, parsing and documenting program options. The self-referential example: http://www.gnu.org/software/autogen/man1-autogen.html New in 5.11.2 - November, 2010 Here are the 'NEWS' entries since the last release New man page templates Kapila Bogahapitiya has massively augmented the collection of templates and support files. It is now possible to specify the man page style (BSD, Solaris, etc.) and to produce polished texinfo manuals. Thank you!! no usage on option misuse By default, if you mistype a command line, you will get a reduced usage reminder that will include some information for each kind of option. Some folks don't like that. AutoOpts now handles additional usage treatment directives in the AUTOOPTS_USAGE environment variable.
