Dear Colleagues,

as the President of the Italian Association for Sanskrit Studies (AISS), I am
delighted to announce the publication of volume 11 of the Corpus Iuris
Sanscriticum et Fontes Iuris Asiae Meridianae et Centralis published by the
Asia Institute Torino (AIT).

Tiziana Pontillo, Alessandro Giudice, Medhātithi’s Grammatical Notes on the
Mānavadharmaśāstra: How Technicalities Can Shed Light on Ancient Indian Law,
Torino: Edizioni AIT – Edizioni ETS 2025. 410 pp.

This volume concentrates on Medhātithi’s systematic recourse to grammatical
sources in his Commentary on the Mānavadharmaśāstra, showing how Vyākaraṇa is
an effective key hermeneutical tool for interpreting juridical language. On the
other hand, this research emphasises the importance of non-grammatical
commentaries in propagating and consolidating grammatical knowledge,
constituting a missing link in the chain of traditional interpreters of
Pāṇini’s grammar from the Kāśikāvṛtti to Navya Vyākaraṇa.
