AMD/ATi support does not evolve much, still uses MESA for 3D, and there isn't 
project to bring Gallium3D framework into opensolaris. plus, so far ati driver 
in opensolaris does not properly support S3.

For desktop compiz effect, both Intel and nvidia driver will do, but if you are 
looking for advanced OpenGL acceleration, currently nvidia is the only choice, 
nvidia continues to update opensolaris port of their driver, for now. 

you can also find alanc in xwin-discuss. He is *the* guy when you have 
questions regarding X Window system on opensolaris.
