Try the edit option at the grub boot prompt and remove the reference to the splash image.

If you can get it to the point where you have ssh access, have a look at migi's blog for a really useful method for moving a good boot environment (BE) between machines: http://blogs.sun.com/migi/entry/broken_opensolaris_never

Funny thing is I am not able to boot from my old boot image as well. Not sure, 
how I messed up this bad.  I don't have OSOL LiveCD handy to install grub from 
there. Any ideas will be much appreciated ?
