That's not true.  The liveCD is designed to run with 512M of ram.  We go
through great pains to keep that functionality.  That said, not all 512M
hardware configurations are the same (for instance a graphics adapter
that pulls memory from the system that only has 512M leaves less than
512M for the liveCD).  However, the stated supported minimum
configuration for running the liveCD is 512M.  As with most things
however, more is better.
