It was sort of that. There were packages in SFE for evaluations, other hackers put that there. So that these software can be built and used as is. For OpenSolaris though, I think the right
way to SFE is actually use source juicer,

That caters for all developers, though some of the software may eventually promoted to /dev by Sun or developers who work with Sun developers to make it to /dev. Of course, everyone is
welcome to continue to use SFE if you don't want to ue pkg(5)
