Hi,

Has anyone been successful in booting the live 2008.05
distribution from USB stick instead of CD ?

I have created a bootable USB stick from the 2008.05 CD using
the method described in:
http://blogs.sun.com/anilg/date/20080428

When I plug the USB stick into my laptop (Asus Eee PC) and
boot I get the normal grub menu and can choose GUI or console
log in. After selecting any of these options and continuing I
get warning messages of type:

WARNING: /[EMAIL PROTECTED],0/[EMAIL PROTECTED],7/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/[EMAIL
PROTECTED],0 (sd1):
Command failed to complete...Device is gone
:
and then end up with:

"Requesting System Maintenance Mode
(See /lib/svc/share/README for more information.)
Console login service(s) cannot run"

Based on these warnings it looks like the open solaris loader
suddenly loses contact with the install media (USB stick, [EMAIL PROTECTED],7)

I know that the USB port is good as I can successfully boot
Live Knoppix Linux from a USB stick on the same port.

Is there any boot options that can get the warning messages
to be written in a file? Right now, all messages just scroll up
too quickly for reading so it's hard to see what is the first
error message. Nothing was written in /var/log/syslog in the
mini root system I end up in. I have also added -v as a boot option.

Any suggestions on how to debug this problem would be appreciated.

/KarlD
