Never mind. Just found it. It's controlled by
$_prefs['refresh_time']['value'].
No, please do mind. That assumption was wrong. Even after changing
the value of refresh_time I'm still getting ajax.php/imp/poll every
minute in my logs.
Can't reproduce. Polling is controlled by the 'refresh_time'
preference on the browser.
