AFAICT, the S/MIME message is broken. At least parsing it with the
current version of openssl on my system (which should be the same
version used internally by PHP):

We are 100% reliant on PHP/OpenSSL for S/MIME parsing, so there's not
much more we can do from a Horde standpoint. I recommend filing a bug
report with the program that created that message.
