Whilst I appreciate the response, with all due respect that's not exactly helpful. This is a pretty fresh install of both Dovecot and PHP, and I don't really have the skills to tinker too much, so it's unlikely that *I've* screwed something up unless it's a problem with the distribution packages (Debian) for their application. But let's take this as a starting point - IMAP will be easier to investigate. From the mail logs at the corresponding time.. Nothing. Much less a "login authentication denied" as indicated by the Horde log entry. Assuming nothing faulty in my logic here (always a bad idea), how would suggest I debug PHP? As far as I can tell from the errors it relates to file writing and reading routines...
