This has been discussed before, and the current behavior is proper.
If you are not hiding deleted messages in IMP, then you *have* to
show all messages as-is, regardless of their current flag.  The user
has explicitly stated that they want to see all messages that live in
the mailbox.  Why should a message that is flagged as deleted not be
shown?  There's nothing special about that message... it still exists
in the mailbox.

That's sort of my point - where do I find the option to hide deleted messages? That's what I'm looking for.

It will appear in the mailbox listing of the traditional mode if you are not using a Trash mailbox. If you *are* using a Trash mailbox, then deleted flags are completely irrelevant so there is no need to hide them (and, concurrently, no need to show a hide deleted messages option).

This option does not currently exist in the dynamic mode.  See Ticket #10256.
