You are right. I have just replaced the whole hardware of the machine running courier-imap. It used to crash from time to time, as it was a 5 y.o machine I decided it was time to replace it. It now works, changing the order of email displayed doesn't result in a mailbox showing no message. As a side note question, when you change the order used to display messages, it's up to the mail server to provide the sorted messages?
